Sexton, Weiskopf, and Russ at Sexton Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to figure out how sedation dentistry can allow you to acquire the care you need while also feeling relaxed.

How we perform sedation services at Sexton Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery will be different based on your level of worry, the service itself, and, finally, the type of sedation being selected.

  • General Anesthesia: General anesthesia works by temporarily blocking the brain's ability to perceive pain and form memories, ensuring that patients remain unconscious and unaware during surgical procedures. It involves administering a combination of medications that affect the entire body, leading to a deep state of sleep and complete muscle relaxation.
  • IV Sedation: IV sedation works by delivering sedative drugs directly into the bloodstream, which induces a state of deep relaxation and calmness during dental or medical procedures. While under IV sedation, patients remain conscious but are typically drowsy and may have little to no memory of the procedure.
  • Oral Sedation: Oral sedation involves taking a sedative pill before a procedure, which helps patients feel relaxed and at ease. The medication usually makes patients drowsy, allowing them to stay awake but less aware of the procedure, with minimal memory of the experience.

What Are the Benefits of Sedation during Treatment?

Sedation provides assorted benefits that can considerably improve the overall dental care experience for patients. Some benefits include:

  • Allows for multiple treatments in one appointment
  • Inspires more frequent dental appointments for standard treatment
  • Minimizes gag reflex over the course of the appointment
  • Assists with care for patients who have special needs
  • Lessens the discomfort of dental procedures
  • Minimizes dental uneasiness
  • Facilitates patient cooperation and placement
  • Offers a feeling of time passing briskly
  • Minimizes memory of the treatment for individuals with dental trauma

I have never felt so welcome and completely comfortable with a dentist in my life. The staff made me feel as if I were part of the family. I had my wisdom tooth removed without sedation and never felt any pain. The staff completely wowed me and made all of my nervous tension disappear. 10 stars hands down ,Absolutely the Best!!!! I would recommend this practice to Jesus!!!!

I put off getting my wisdom teeth removed until I was 34 for a reason. I was scared to death! Dr. Weiskopf and his team were absolutely amazing. I see why it took months to get a consultation! I was made to feel so comfortable. I have zero pain from surgery and no swelling as of yet - I am typing this 10 hours post op. They were also very flexible in letting me have a say in my sedation and pain meds so I wasn't knocked out all day. I am very grateful for the care I received. As if I couldn't be impressed anymore, Dr. Weiskopf called me personally to check on me. He even sent in a prescription I forgot to ask for after my antibiotics, at 8pm. I will be telling anyone who needs oral surgery to run not walk to this clinic. I will also be telling my General Dentist he needs to refer there as well. You can't go wrong with getting care here. 10/10 highly recommend!

After 50 plus years of being told to get my wisdom tooth removed, I finally needed to do it. I was given “laughing gas” for relaxation and everything went well. No need for sedation. I did what I was instructed for post op care. I did go back for a recheck to make sure things were ok. Dr. Weiskopf was very caring and understood my hesitation. Highly recommend him as your oral surgeon.

Wonderful experience. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Insurance was handled easily and the person was very knowledgeable and understanding in helping me with my needs. Being able to complete the lengthy paperwork online prior to first appointment was very nice. Dr. Sexton was great. He listened to my concerns and offered advised concerning my procedure. Day of my surgery was a good experience. I was nervous having never been under sedation before; the staff and Dr. Sexton made it relaxing. I felt that I was treated with the utmost care and concern from everyone I encountered at the office. I would highly recommend Dr. Sexton and his office.
